Algae Control (Green Clean)

We carry a great variety of products for algae control solutions. Take a look at our Pond algae control page and find what you are looking for. Only we have the best to control pond algae.

Algae control is an unfortunate, but necessary fact of life when owning a pond. Complicating matters further is whether or not fish or other pond life exist in the pond. It is for this reason, we have assembled pond algae control solutions that are both environmentally friendly and safe for fish, pets and people.

There are several ways to go about controlling algae such using an algaecide like GreenClean that kills and controls pond algae immediately upon contact, or other means such as controlling one or more of the symptoms that lead to algae such as poor oxygen levels, too much sunlight or excess nutrients.

For a short term, highly effective way to kill and control algae, we recommend GreenClean and GreenClean Pro Algaecides which are EPA registered algae killers that works on contact to kill and control pond algae, without the potentially harmful side effects of copper-based algaecides. Through its oxidizing effects, GreenClean immediately begins to kill algae including string algae, hair algae, filamentous algae and planktonic algae, which causes the pea green colored, soupy-like water.Regular GreenClean is best suited to control algae in koi ponds, water gardens and backyard ponds, while GreenClean Pro is formulated for algae control in commercial ponds, farm ponds and small lakes.

You may also look into rakes and weed eradicators to manually remove algae as it builds up.

For long term pond algae control, we recommend products and programs that help alleviate the symptoms mentioned above.  If the pond has poor oxygen levels, an aerator should be one of the first things you look into.  Aeration helps break down waste in ponds and energize beneficial pond bacteria.  To help reduce sunlight penetration, try shade the pond water or add aquatic plants to also shade the water.

For the control of excess nutrients we highly recommend regular usage of pond bacteria .  Beneficial pond bacteria will break down and degrade excess fish waste, food waste, as well as dead vegatation and even fertilizer runoff. You may also look to pond rakes and pond nets to also aid in removing unwanted debris from your pond or lake.
